WeWALK Annual Summit 2026: Taking the Next Step for Independent Mobility

We recently wrapped up the WeWALK Annual Summit 2026, and we’re still energized by the incredible conversations, ideas, and innovations shared with our global community. Bringing together visually impaired users, our partners, orientation and mobility specialists, and accessibility experts from around the world, this year’s summit was not only a moment to reflect on progress, but also to look ahead to the future of independent mobility.

Expanding Horizons with WeASSIST

One of the most exciting announcements at the summit was the global expansion of WeASSIST, our professional human-based visual assistance service. Previously available in Turkey and the United Kingdom, WeASSIST is now officially launching in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Through the WeWALK app, users can connect with trained WeASSIST agents who provide real-time visual support for everyday situations, whether it’s navigating an airport, locating a shop entrance, reading a document, checking their makeup and outfit, or using household electronic devices.

Connecting to WeASSIST is simple:

  1. Log in or register to the WeWALK app.
  2. Tap the WeASSIST tab.
  3. Click Connect to Assistant.

If this is your first connection, grant camera, microphone, and location permissions.

After granting permissions, your rear camera will activate, and our assistant will be able to see your surroundings and provide live visual guidance in real time.

Smart Cane 2: Continuous Innovation Through Software & Firmware

At WeWALK, innovation doesn’t stop at hardware. The Smart Cane 2 continues to evolve through powerful software and firmware improvements designed to make the experience more reliable, personalized, and intuitive.

Key improvements introduced during the summit include:

More Reliable Navigation:

A new manual compass calibration feature improves the accuracy of clock-direction navigation guidance, ensuring users receive more dependable orientation information while traveling. To calibrate the compass of your Smart Cane 2, you can click here to follow the steps shown in the video.

Enhanced Battery & Connectivity:

Performance optimizations now include a sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity, helping extend battery life, alongside improved Bluetooth stability for a more seamless connection with the WeWALK app.

Greater Personalization:

Users can now tailor their experience with new voice options and adjustable speech rates, allowing the Smart Cane to better match individual preferences.

Improved Sensory Feedback:

The obstacle detection system now supports simultaneous audio beeps and vibration alerts, providing clearer feedback while moving. Additionally, a flashlight feature has been introduced to support partially sighted users in low-light environments.

Please keep in mind that both the WeWALK Smart Cane 2 and WeWALK App should be updated to the latest version to benefit from these features.

Our Smartest AI Voice Assistant Yet

The 2026 Voice Assistant is our most advanced AI assistant yet. By simply pressing a button on the cane, users can ask complex questions and receive helpful responses instantly.

The AI Assistant connects seamlessly with the cane’s smart features, enabling you to give voice commands. For example:

  • Smart Cane Related Commands: “Say my battery level”, or other questions related to using your smart cane.
  • Smart Map Features: “Where am I?”, “Save my location”, “Take me to London Bridge”, “Nearest Café”, “List nearby public transport stops”, and more.
  • General Information: Such as “Give me a description of Stonehenge”, “Give me a recipe for chocolate chip cookies”, and more.

This transforms Smart Cane 2 into not only a mobility tool but also a powerful everyday AI assistant.

Empowering Professionals with AI Mobility (AIM)

We also introduced Artificial Intelligence Mobility (AIM), a data-driven system designed specifically for orientation and mobility (O&M) specialists and healthcare professionals. AIM turns sensor data from the Smart Cane into actionable insights. By measuring metrics like cane angle, sweep consistency, and step count, AIM empowers O&M professionals to provide personalised, data-driven training. These insights are presented in easy-to-use dashboards, helping instructors track progress and report outcomes with objective evidence.

To learn more about how your institution can benefit from the AIM technology, please visit our AI Mobility Platform page or reach out to us at [email protected].

WeWALK Annual Summit 2026 was a milestone for our community and a glimpse into the future of accessible mobility.

We’re excited about what’s ahead and proud to continue building technologies that empower people with visual impairment to move through the world with greater confidence and independence.
