From Billy to Amanda!
Ditte has such a special bond with their WeWALK Smart Canes that she has names for them!
“I don’t want to offend my Smart Cane 1 because it was a very good companion. I called him Billy. However, WeWALK Smart Cane 2, which I call Amanda, is less bulky and stays nice and stable with the app. Of course, we’re very happy that you introduced Danish. And of course, we really like the AI feature that comes with the smart cane too.”

As Ditte explained, the cane has already proven useful in everyday situations:
“René had to go somewhere at the other end of our little town. We live in the province of Denmark, in quite a small town, although it’s quite extensive all the same. So René had to return from the Public Library. What he did was that he asked WeWALK to guide him. He said, ‘OK, now you’re the boss, I just follow your lead.’ And he was taken through all the back streets, all the little shortcuts. He did actually manage to get home, and it worked really smoothly. So that is really a thing that’s quite helpful.”
They also appreciate how the cane simplifies navigation and creates a hands-free experience:
“Another thing that I really like—and that René likes too—is that you don’t have to fiddle with your phone while you’re on the go. You can actually just use your cane to navigate.”
Support Along the Way During the Guide Dog Transition
As our conversation progressed, Ditte also talked about how WeWALK has supported them during René’s guide dog transition.
“It is a very exciting part of our life at the moment because next week, we will be joined in our house by a four-legged family member, a guide dog. René’s been in between guide dogs for quite a few months. He lost his former guide dog in March, and now we have November, so it has been quite a while that he’s been without a dog. It’s really been a great help for him to use WeWALK while waiting for the dog in the meantime.”
